生物膜与膜生物工程国家重点实验室成立于1988年。由中国科学院动物研究所膜生物化学与膜分子生物学分室、清华大学膜生物物理与膜生物工程分室和北京大学膜离子通道与受体分子分室。实验室自1990年通过国家验收并正式向国内外开放，并于1996年、2001年和2006年以"良好"的成绩通过国家重点实验室验收。实验室以"开放、流动、联合、竞争"八字方针为指导，以提高研究人员的素质、出成果、出人才为中心，创办国际水准的生物膜与膜生物工程研究基地。
        实验室的研究方向集中在如下四个方面：膜脂/膜蛋白相互作用及膜蛋白结构与功能研究、细胞跨膜信号转导与离子通道特性研究、生物膜能量转换的研究和膜生物工程。在生物化学、分子生物学、细胞生物学、生理学与生物物理学等学科交叉融合的基础上，开展多学科间的合作，着重从分子和细胞水平阐明生物膜结构与功能的关系，以及生物膜在物质交换、能量转换与信号转导中的作用。目前在膜蛋白结构、钙信号、线粒体自由基和跨膜信号转导等研究领域形成了一定特色和优势。 more
